The Three Questions, a Reflection

I collect books and I have in my library more than two thousand children's literature ranging from award winners to reading series. As I was reviewing my inventory, I came upon this wonderful book which speaks about the meaning of life.

The Three Questions is one of my favourite literature based on a story penned by Leo Tolstoy. The edition that I have is an adaptation to suit the level of the children I teach. When I re-read the story, it dawned on me that all my sunset stories can be answered by three philosophical questions.

The three questions were:

When is the best time to do things?

Who is the most important one?

What is the right thing to do?

“Remember then that there is only one important time, and that time is now. The most important one is always the one you are with. And the most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side. This is why we are here.”
― Jon J. MuthThe Three Questions

"I vow to live in the present and to refrain from looking back at the negativities for it is eating up my inner being. I will always look at the joy and comfort of the people around me such as my students and my closest friends including those I connect with through blogging. I will continue to do good, to extend my support, and pray for those who needed them most."
- Jon Yu, reflecting on The Three Questions

  2. Hi Simon,

We all have questions in life and these are probably the best to ask and to answer. Good luck to your search as life is filled with obstacles but with open doors.

  3. Magandang Tanghali sir Jonathan :)

Well, I haven't read this book of Leo Tolstoy yet. Judging on your mini review, I believe it's a good one!

Time is Gold and it's slowly slipping away like a grains of sand. Mabilis na lumilipas ang oras, di mo namamalayan, your time is already up before you even make your move.

    Have a good day!

  6. Hello Rix,

Kaya nga kitang gawan ng isang post based on your comments, ha,ha,ha.

  9. Hi cher,

Hayaan mo pag yumaman ako mag donate ako for your teaching.

Parang yung mayonnaise story yung reflection mo. One day you will feel ayaw mo na but the next day sugod pa rin sa giyera.

I love this comment a lot and thanks for the assurance of support. Have a great week.

  11. Interesting questions indeed!..

  12. Tama ka diyan. The questions are just guides and it is good to stop for awhile and look at things. Just like your postings, great sources if looking at life and what we want to accomplish.

  13. I'll try to answer them:

When is the best time to do things?
    - When your mind is clear and your heart is light.

Who is the most important one?
    - No one is the most important; we are all equals, regardless of what we are.

What is the right thing to do?
    - The one which would give you genuine happiness.

  19. Hello June,

Point taken and I always live in the past. Hindi na siya maibabalik that's why I always end up sad. I am looking at the now so I can see the future.

  20. Hi Ms. Leeh,

Tama nga, dahil hindi ako magiging masaya if I always blame myself for what others did or if I blame others for what they did to me. Time to move, time to accept and embrace the present and future.

  23. Three questions, When, Who and What! Ang hirap sagutin nyan... specially that I have my own question about priorities right now about work... hirap! #justsaying

  24. Mahirap nga Mar. There are many aspects of life that needed questionings but the most difficulty is finding the answers. As they always say, follow your heart. I find making priorities difficult as well.

  25. Before I read the answers to the question, I wrote mine first:
    1. Best time to do things is when one is inspired.
    2. God
    3. In line with God's word.
But then I read the answers and found out that yes, that it make sense to me too. Time is gold so I too make my time worth every moment. Try to enjoy and be glad no matter what.
