Realizations

When there's spare time, I would indulge myself to some sketching or crafty things as to bring out the creative juices back in me.  With some pencils, a rubber and a lamp, I decided to sit down and sketch some fruits at first, to see whether I can actually do shadows. 

I realized that life is like sketching and in that it is easy to begin but difficult to continue.  And along the way there will be a lot of erasures, as I am unsure and do dislike the shape of my drawings or the play of dark and light.  

I realized that life offers a lot of opportunities and when we accept the challenges, we either succeed or learn from our mistakes.  It is the outlook that is most important.  As I was having a difficult time seeing the length of the shadow I wanted to make, I was in fact, using a rubber to correct my sketches. And I could.  Whatever I make wrong, I can always make them right. 

And when I realized that fruits are amazingly easy to sketch, I decided to change subjects thus the flowers.  In life, I need to seek for adventures and new beginnings to liven up my spirit.  To seek new friendships, smile more, strive for new skills, and be confident of what I can do and do for others.  

Sketching is both fun and frustrating.  Just like life, we can never be happy every moment of our life but we can always see the goodness in all things and smile about them. Be happy and stay happy!

Art Auction 2016 Part Two

The titles for each art piece are given by my students in class.  When there are two or three interesting names, we vote for which is the best that describes a certain piece. 

Bidding started at 300 baht for the smaller pieces and 500 baht for the bigger ones. This year, we raised around 3000 USD to support cleft palate operation for young children.

The bids were not as grand as previous years and I was a bit disappointed as some of the pieces only got a bid of 30 USD.  Each year is different but this year was not as giving as before.  Anyway, better than nothing. We can still send four children for their operation. 

Art Auction 2016 Part One

Always been, will be, a part of every school year.  An art auction to benefit once again, children with cleft palate.  The proceeds will go to Operation Smile and the children in my class will share their artworks done throughout the year.

Our theme this year is Dialogues with Trees so the artworks are mostly inspired by the garden and our environment. 

Longing For You To Walk With Me in My Garden

I was busy being happy and the results were quite ok.  I do draw and paint but one night, while waiting for everyone to finish, I was left alone to do nothing so I made these illustrations via an app called Sketches. 

The flowers were photographed during my short stay in Kamphaengphet and became a reference as I drew one flower each. 

These lovely flowers were drawn because I am inspired by someone, though inspiration comes in many forms.  

When I was sick many years ago, I produced artworks that are now stacked together in boxes. When I was sad, I did calligraphy writing to let the sadness go.  When I am in love, these sketches then.

They may be amateurish and my actuations, teenage like, but it is better to show one's happiness than wallow in the dark.

Since the classroom was now devoid of colours but we still had a few weeks before the school ended, we decided to do more art pieces to showcase our creative juices.

It never fails to amaze me how much the children can share their ideas in making these art pieces. If I could make creating art pieces a living, I will retire immediately from teaching which is an irony since I need the students to create these pieces, lol! Have a great day!

Art Auction 2015

My students this school year were threes going fours and the result of their art works were not as grand as my experience with the older fours. Nevertheless, the exposure was that of richness and grandiosity.

The first art piece was done with fingers.

The second was the first graphic illustration of the children of sunflowers.

The third was a collage of natural materials.

The fourth was print on canvas and beading with stones.

The fifth was canvas and painted paper.

And the sixth being acrylic on canvas.

This year, the total contributions from the auction reached six thousand USD. The proceeds went to support the Nepal earthquake survivors. Great children, great minds, great job!

Showcasing Regional Talents

As part of a Teachers' Congress I attended in Singapore, I visited the library where some of the illustrations were displayed. The Book Illustrators Gallery aims to showcase the works of local and regional illustrators and artists - across genres and borders - and promote them to a wider audience. ( p.72, AFCC 2015 Programme)

Of the 150 submissions, I am presenting only a chosen few. My criteria being 'one that catches my eyes instantly'.
