Ikebana

The art of Ikebana is something that I have not taken into consideration of pursuing or learning. Gardening with Bonsai plants yes!, but not the art of arranging flowers. Most of these intricate arrangements show passion, patience and uttermost creativity. For some, the finished product can be seen on a subjective level, whether they actually captured the emotions of the viewers or they gave meanings to the people who looked at them.

I was fortunate enough to see some of the creations made by Japanese Ikebana artists under the theme of Mother's Day of which Thailand celebrates on the 12th of August, in commemoration of the Queen's birthday.

Let me indulge you to some art ...

Takeshi Iioka

Heart - Kourei Hosokawa

Seio Ishima

The Light - Seiyo Ishii

Flower, People, Love - Norika Nitta

Dream of Mother - Seirei Yoshizawa

Thank You Mom, With Gratitude - Sousyun Okada

Eternity - Koji Kurata

Paradise - Koyo Sasaki

Feeling Great - Shigyoku Hieda
In Ikebana, the flowers are imbued with a human meaning. They are no longer the flowers of the meadow or the flower shop...the result is an expression of the Ikebana artist. (Kadensho, Teshigahara's Diary)

Happy Mother's Day!

  3. Of course, even at the last day, hirit pa rin. Even my garden, I had the trees trimmed so it is so bright in front of the house. Tomorrow is a new day and hopefully a good school year.

  4. Ric, tumpak ka diyan. I moved aroundone arrangement to the next trying to figure out kung bakit this one and that one were entitled as such. Binaluktot ang dahon, tawagin na ba siyang... Twisted, ha,ha,ha.

I was the only one around that morning and after taking photos of them, the guard told me.... no photo! and I said, "really!"

  8. MEcoy, talagang pinag-isipan at kung titignan maigi, yung cutting ng flowers, arranging and tying, may art. Galing ng mga Japanese!

  9. Happy Mother's Day Ms. Balut. Very modern ang approach, not the usual Ikebana I know. There had been a play of colours as well.

  11. I'm trying to visualize the characters of each Ikebana Arts, and here it goes.

My impression is based on how the Ikebana had been photographed:
    1. One sided
    2. Elegance
    3. Fire Works
    4. Refuge
    5. Magical
    6. Sharing
    7. Touch me not
    8. Defensive
    9. Crowning Glory
    10. Air Bender

POV ko lang to hahaha Naku baka magalit sa kin yong gumawa nang mga Ikebana na yan hahaha

  12. Naks ikaw na ang makarating sa Thailand. Just dropping by. Thanks for visiting my blog too.

During the Japanese Culture Festival here in Florence meron silang parang crash course about ikebana.

I went there out of curiosity. They taught us about it and the philosophy behind this art.

It wasn't really for me. I massacred the plants and flowers, and my work was monstrous. The instructor was very nice. She said that it's okay because it was my first time.

I just don't have the patience for such thing. I went away to find the nearest food stall and asked for sweets. Ah, art may fail me, but food will always be there to console me. Hahaha!

  14. @Rajiv,

I wonder if anything Japanese suh as Ikebana is known or popular in your country. Might be food eh?

  15. @ senyor - pag pinagsama ko yung title ng piece with the meaning of purple eh hindi na Mother's Day arrangement yan, magiging wreath.

I ammore interested in interpreting the arrangements. Why certain things should be at his side. If there are numbers to follow just like n Haiku. If size and colours do matter.

  16. @ mar - at inisa isa, effort! Tinignan ko din kung bakit yan ang mga names na napili mo. We all see things differently. Fave ko yun Eternity, gusto ko yung shadow cast by the branches. Tatawagin kong Reaching Out, parang reaching out to you...

  19. Ang gaganda naman ng mga creation na yan! I remember reading about Ikebana when I was in grade school. At ang na-retain lang sa memory ko ay dapat merong heaven, man, and earth. Yun lang hehe.

  20. @ tripster - naks ikaw na ang nasa Italia, ha,ha,ha. Hindi ko pa na try to join an ikebana course, moreso, to see one in action. Ang alam ko lang, medyo mabusisi siyang gawin what with the different shapes and colours one has to incorporate in one's arrangement.

I like eating too, especially sweets, and when I go on a buffet, I always visit the dessert table first. If we cannot make our minds rich with art then we might as well make our bellies rich with food.

  21. @ overthinker - ako rin, I know a little bit about Ikebana but I am more on learning about bonsai gardening. nagkataon na there was an exhibit just for Mother's Day so I was curious and took photographs and shared them here.

It will be fun to have a bloggers meet doing Ikebana arrangements for sale.

  24. Ang paborito ko ay yung Eternity. Parang opposing points sa isang art. Yung isang side ay barren tapos yung isa may flowers, may buhay.

  25. Same fave Ish, kung maganda siguro yung camera, mas maganda pagkakakuha. Gusto ko interpretation mo :)
