The Secret of My Garden

I was doing the garden, repotting and trimming branches when my friend called from Australia. Then while speaking with her on the phone, the wind suddenly came and the pitter patter of rain became tapping sounds on the roof. It was mother nature's time to do her job.

With my busy schedule, Sunday is the only day of the week that I can actually sit down and dig into the dirt. The plants are continuously growing so as their needs.

A walk in the garden after a hard's day work is welcoming.
One day, after a gruelling day at school, I went home and was gladly surprised to see something near the door of my home. It was a snakeskin, shed and rubbed off while it was crawling. My garden is a wonderful abode for creatures so I am blessed with critters and creepers.

Knowing that animals choose to live in the garden shows how healthy the surrounding is.

One faithful companion I have is my poodle. She is the apple of my eye and the destroyer of everything inside my house. Yet when she visits the garden (when allowed to roam), she usually run around the grass in circular motion then starts exploring her surroundings. She is often running after frogs or the occasional Siamese cats venturing the grass area.

A simple gift of exuberance and joy!

When one person can plant and grow a garden; maintain a healthy surrounding for growth and living; and take care of a pet in his life time, he shows a sense of responsibility, appreciation and patience.

  1. I never had interest with gardening. For me, it was tedious and boring. So I guess I am irresponsible, unappreciative, and impatient. *hahaha*

    Good for you though. :)

  2. Good to see the green things growing... Yes, gardening is very relaxing.

And I love man's best friend, dogs!

  5. Oh I'm over jealous with your garden(ing) :(

But! I am wondering how you so calmly share the story about the snakeskin near your door?

I so agree and love this:

... but the sight of snakeskin will send me scampering away from the garden and probably won't be able to sleep. I am sooo scared of sanke hu hu hu

  6. Hello Geosef,

I believe it goes with age. You can always cultivate a love for something while we also grow with our view with responsibility, appreciation and patience. You are very young and you will in time learn to have more virtues.

If not gardening, you can be responsible, appreciative and patient with something you are passionate about, the big S, he,he,he.

  7. Hello Ric,

Same here as I told myself I wanted to do three things when I am older and work is not even listed. I have seen pictures of your garden and the plants are also so green, thanks to the rain.

Have you seen the snakes around your garden? Mine are the green ones, coiled on top of the mango branches, or the fence sunbathing.

The dog is an added responsibility but it keeps me company.

  8. Hello Ms. Joy,

The dog sleeps with me on the bed. She follows me wherever I go. Sometimes I have to shoo her away especially when I am to use the toilet, ha,ha,ha.

I find gardening relaxing. After school, hawak ang walis at nag-meditate. Sweep, sweep, ummm, ummm...

  9. Hello Fiel,

Thanks to the sun and rain, hindi sila high maintenance pero kapag summer, doble trabaho.

My dog's name is Ying and I got her just this year to keep me company. Or should I say to break my whole house because of her constant biting and chewing.

  10. Hi Ms. Balut,

When I did my laundry the other time, I opened the door and there was a loud sound of something that dropped from the top door. When I immediately looked down, it was a green snake longer than a metre slithering fast away from me. I was fortunate that it didn't go inside the house or else.

Another day when I sent my student to the door, a snake was coiled on the fence, sunbathing herself. I didn't see it first but when it started slithering, both my student and I took back steps to see her go.

The perks of gardening. Did I ever mention bats and big spiders? How about the occasional geckos?

I didn't grow old having virtues of patience and appreciation. It grew on me through experience and life long learning. Be a gardener, we grow things not destroy them.

  16. Hello Rix,

May katol talaga ang mga comments mo. Love ko din yung mga bonsai, as in halaman, ok. I have one, given to me as a birthday present.

Love ko naman sila kasi they add natural to the word nature.

Ala, at bakit may evil grin ka diyan? May binabalak ka noh? I youtube mo, nang mapanood ko.

  22. Hi Rix,

Hmmm.... pag may budget, will start one.

  23. Hi Cher Kat,

Start right now! Sabi nga ni Mar, mag vegetable planting para may kainin. I saw them in your school. You can make an activity for your children to plant and grow them. Science, math and language art activity.

Start with potted plants at home. Mahilig ako sa flowers kasi may kulay so you can do the same.

  27. Thanks Janz! Kaya mo yan but writing is also like gardening. You can plant wisdom to other people's mind.
