I recently re-read the book The Animals of Farthing Wood and once again fell in love with the story. Written by Colin Dann, it tells about a group of animals who wanted a better haven, for their natural habitat is being taken over by humans. Meeting challenges along the way, one can simply draw a comparison to each and every character as they show their weaknesses and strengths.
The best thing about this children's literature book is the use of words and how descriptive the sentences are in most of the pages.
And in the last few pages of the book, it is so inspiring when each and every animal shares their aspirations as they end their long journey. The owl, making sure that she will get a fair share of sleeping at the right time. The badger, to sleep under the ground again. The hare, to run free with its family. The weasel, to go foraging at night. The heron, to meet someone of one's kind again. And the fox, to be with its new mate and prepare to build a new home.
When we walk through our journeys in life, we have aspirations we wanted to achieve. We can do it alone, but ideally with someone or with friends for support. It will be tough, just like when the animals met plentiful of barriers, but our journey ends in success when we persevere. And just like the remaining animals in this journey of life, mine is not just to live, but to have a happier state of mind, living peacefully among men.
Sounds like a very inspiring and motivational book Sir! even though it is a children's book. Your post actually reminds me of one of my favorite books Sir- The Little Prince. I'm sure you've heard about it too.

This is a good post. Interesting... indeed.
ReplyDeleteWe all need love, support, encouragement and appreciation. You have clearly underlined all those.
Have a fabulous week ahead buddy :)
I received The Little Prince as a present from a penpal from Germany when I was much younger and I still have the book. This book I wrote about talked about aspirations and after all the struggles, they all were successful and happy. This is one thing we should work on. Thanks for the visit Cristine.
ReplyDeleteHi Rajiv,
ReplyDeleteThank you and I do wish everyone who passes by my blog peace, love and wealth. When I happen to read a book that talks about these things, I just wanted to share it to all.
To be honest, your post is really motivating me. I've been to a lot of 'crazy' condition lately, but "to have a happier state of mind" --> that is INCREDIBLY inspiringgggg!! I had been reading this post for the nth time but I dont know what to say. It makes me feel good thats for sure. Calms my sould and puts aside my worries. A great reminder that, yes, I am not alone. That I am surrounded with people with great aspirations as well and we have to support each other in achieving it :)
ReplyDeleteHi Imme,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the wonderful compliments! I am happy to share my readings and my thoughts about many things and if I inspire someone with my writings, then it is indeed a privilege to be a writer and a blogger.

ReplyDeleteCher Kat, you will not be able to survive a lot of things without your family and friends and this time, as a new change is going to unfold, the more you needed their support.
ReplyDeleteWhatever your decisions or paths to take, we, your friends will be around to cheer and to hold hands together as we aspire for better lives.
Hi Rix,
ReplyDeleteAng mga nanay nga naman. I grew up having very little books at home. Hindi siya ang priority so when I started teaching, I started collecting books so I can share the importance of reading to children. This book is for older children because of the plot and dialogues. I guess we can tame them using our own words to inspire younger listeners.
Do what you learned from your mom, be a role model.
Hello Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting story book wherein the animals are chased out of their natural habitat and finally find a safe haven.
I believe there is a real life lesson in this ====
CHANGE IS THE ONLY PERMANENT THING IN LIFE. IF WE DON'T CHANGE WITH THE TIMES AND CIRCUMSTANCES WE WILL PERISH.
The story is also a strong reminder to what is happening in the world today. Deforestation is a common thing for building railways, roads, housing complexes, factories etc. The poor animals and birds living in these forests have a tough time to adjust to this situation and to find new safe haven where they can carry on their normal, peaceful life. This is very sad.
In India special efforts are made to save tigers and some special type of deers which are close to extinction.
Your post is very special because we humans in our quest for development and progress don't hesitate to destroy the natural habitats of animals and birds.
Best wishes
Hello Joseph,
ReplyDeleteI had this book for many years now and it was good to reread this to an older child as she could actually give insights about the theme of the story. My student knew exactly what was going on, deforestation and loss, so it was good to hear her sides as she will be one of the future generation.
A book is just a reminder or a wake up call and it is up to us, in our little ways, to help our Earth.
I am fortunate to have My Beloved Wife to join me in this life journey. :-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book. In fact, I haven't read a book for a long time because of the busyness of daily life.
Never read that book, but it seems as thouhg it is one I should get my hands on.
